Title:
Paleoseismology, seismic and tsunami hazard

Description:
A considerable number of populated areas is located on active plate boundaries where great earthquakes and tsunamis have occurred in recent, historical and prehistorical times. Scientists have been working into explaining the origin and recurrence of these events to improve their ability to assess seismic and tsunami hazards in the near feature, to create resilient communities.

This session aims to bring together a broad spectrum of scientists, who deal with such diverse questions as paleoseismology, tectonic models, and assessment of seismic and tsunami hazard, and the public’s preparedness for natural disasters. It is an opportunity for all the participants to share new findings and the lessons learned from the recent great earthquakes and tsunamis around the globe, find out how their own activity fits into the broad picture of science, and to aid in the communication between scientists and society.

We encourage the scientific community to submit abstracts on the topics related to:

Paleoseismology and active faults - Research aimed at identifying active faults (both crustal and megathrust faults, i.e. subduction zones), determining the events chronology and slip rates, as well as identifying and dating tsunami deposits, and associated earthquake phenomena (liquefaction and landslide features). Use of remote sensing (LIDAR, SATELLITE IMAGES, etc.) and other advance tools and technology to identify possible fault activity.

Tsunami hazard –Tsunami inundation characterization based on historical archives and geologic data. Use of tsunami deposits to understand hazard. Design of tsunami flooding, hazard and evacuation maps through numerical models. Establishing a Tsunami Warning System and its relation with local, regional, national, and global, seismic and GPS networks.

Societal concerns – Educational efforts to achieve prepared communities. Prepare warning messages, protocols, and evacuation routes for earthquake and tsunami hazards. Design of non-technical hazard assessment maps for political and educational uses. Evaluation of earthquake and tsunami hazard among potentially affected populations. Public and private efforts to decrease earthquake and tsunami hazard.

Title:
Geoscience and engineering applications to renewable energy and energy efficiency

Description:
Accelerating the pace of adoption of renewable energy sources in global power systems while extending access to equitable energy is essential to address climate change. Yet, dramatic and rapid evolution of the power systems is creating new challenges as countries strive to provide low-carbon, reliable, resilient, and affordable power.

Members of Research and Higher Education Institutions, members of the Industry, economists, teachers, members of NGOs, Civil Associations and other learned societies, are invited to submit oral and poster presentations on renewable energy and energy efficiency. Contributions are invited on:

* Basic and applied research;
* Technological development and innovation;
* Governance, policy, and management (for example paradigm shifts in national policies);
* Multidisciplinary studies;
* Teaching and outreach activities; and
* Critical reviews of the state-of-the-art.

Title:
Modeling of atmospheric processes: theory and applications

Description:
The dynamics of the atmosphere is based on a suitable compromise between theory and experiment. It has a set of well documented conservation laws, which allows a rigorous theoretical treatment. However, the theory refers primarily to idealized situations and, therefore, in practical cases is only valid with some degree of approximation. The dynamics of the atmosphere is an exciting field, with important practical applications ranging from weather forecasting and climate change to the dispersion of pollutants and control of emissions from various sources of pollution.

Works devoted to theoretical issues, results of a numerical simulation or modeling of various atmospheric processes are invited.

Title:
Coastal oceanography

Description:
Ocean dynamics in coastal regions is particularly complex due to the variety of continental, marine and atmospheric physical process taking place. In coastal areas several process interact including sea level variations (inclusive of storm surges), currents, sediment transport, winds, waves, river discharges, etc.. These processes are affected by depth, shape of the coastline and other water bodies such as coastal lagoons. Additionally, the coastal morphology and environmental conditions are affected by the increasing human activity. In this special session we invite researchers to participate with studies related to physical processes in the coastal zone, including case studies oriented towards problem solving. We particularly invite those projects that improve our understanding of the coupling between processes, including observational studies and simulations, both numerical and physical. We also welcome studies related to meteorology that improve our understanding of the atmospheric forcing in this area.

Title:
Heavy metals in soil and dust in urban, rural and mining environments

Description:
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that exposure to air pollution causes about seven million premature deaths. Polluting agents discharges into the atmosphere eventually fall to the soil and/or form urban dust. Among the main contaminants in soil and urban dust, thre are the heavy metals which are responsible for a variety of diseases. However, the diagnostics on heavy metals are not performed routinely and in many cases and places no previous studies exist. Thus, it is urgent to carry our extensive diagnostic studies on concentrations of heavy metals in urban, rural and mining environments at regional scale in order to prevent the population. In the context way it is necessary to create inexpensive and relatively simple methodologies enabling a rapid decision-making based on magnetic and color properties.

Title:
Point clouds applications in Earth sciences

Description:
The emerging use LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) aerial and terrestrial for three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction is increasingly common in diverse disciplines. The result of LiDAR scanning is a dense agglomerations of 3D coordinates or point cloud with surprising accuracy delineating the sinuosity of scanned surfaces. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones are currently an economic alternative for aerial photographs and products derived from them such as point cloud, orthoimagery, digital terrain and surface models. The massive nature of the point cloud requires specialized tools for handling and processing.

A new and wide range of studies with these technologies are being carried out in universities and research centers. We request to present studies on Earth sciences through the use of LiDAR aerial and terrestrial, as well as 3D reconstruction by drone photogrammetry.

Examples of Earth sciences studies with cloud points are:

Title:
Assessment of Land Subsidence processes in the world. The UNESCO Working Group on Land Subsidence.

Description:
The UNESCO Working Group on Land Subsidence (WGLS) organizes this session to invite the Earth Science community to present studies on the various processes that give rise and are associated with the phenomenon of land subsidence. Nowadays have been reported more than 150 subsidence areas in different parts of the world (http://landsubsidence-unesco.org/).

Land Subsidence is the general decline in ground level that can be associated with natural and anthropogenic causes, the first are tectonic movements, sea level rise, oxidation of organic material and cavities in karst areas. Among the causes associated with human activities are mainly fluid extraction such as groundwater in densely populated areas, gas and /or hydrocarbons extraction and the exploitation of solid materials (underground mining). In different countries the associated processes are related with the extracted fluid or material, the geological conditions, the socio-economic development and, the management of public policies addressed to characterize and mitigate the effects of these processes and associated phenomena such as ground rupture. Different techniques have been developed for the analysis, characterization and monitoring of LS.

The WGLS invites the community of Earth Sciences to present works related with the characterization and/or modeling of specific case studies, monitoring systems and public policies related to LS, which is a widespread problem in today\'s world and is directly associated with the management of natural resources.

Title:
Geothermal: clean and renewable energy

Description:
We invite all those interested in sharing their experiences and results about geothermal energy projects, both in Mexico and abroad, to participate in the Annual Meeting of the Mexican Geophysical Union, one of the busiest geosciences conferences in Mexico (~ 1000 papers) and with greater diversity of topics. The Special Session on Geothermal energy welcomes contributions on topics related to the exploration and exploitation of geothermal resources for power generation, as well as those relating to direct use of geothermal heat for domestic or industrial applications. Title:

The purpose of this section is to present research related to those factors needed for the development of public policies for integrated risk management of natural and technological phenomena. Title:
Induced and triggered seismicity

Description:
On a global scale, the current level of earthquakes induced by anthropic activities and underground exploitation is increasing at an unprecedented rate. Mass media is paying considerable attention to this phenomenon, thereby increasing the general public’s awareness of it. Accordingly, the scientific community has made efforts to understand and mitigate seismicity caused by fluid movement in the Earth’s brittle crust. Understanding the physical process of fluid induced seismicity on a multiscale level will assist in the development of new methods and models. Induced seismicity research topics range from acoustic emissions during laboratory experiments to seismicity caused by the stimulation of hydrocarbon and geothermal reservoirs, carbon capture storage, and wastewater disposal, to earthquake swarms triggered in volcanic regions and subduction zones.

We invite contributions from all disciplines, including laboratory experiments, case studies, geomechanics, numerical modeling, statistical and quantitative methods, and seismic hazard assessment and mitigation. In particular, we are interested in studies monitoring and assessing the triggered and induced seismicity in Mexican territory.

Title:
Assessment of large earthquakes and tsunamis for disaster prevention

Description:
The Pacific coast of Mexico is a region with a high risk of disasters due to the likely occurrence of megathrust earthquakes and tsunamis in the near future. We require urgent actions to mitigate the associated risk through the implementation of both, early warning systems based on quantitative (and physics-based) hazard estimates, and consistent prevention policies including outreach and education. In this multidisciplinary session, we welcome contributions aiming at geophysical studies to improve our understanding of megathrust earthquakes and tsunamis with emphasis in subduction zones (e.g., slow slip transients, interseismic strain accumulation, plate interface coupling, seismicity, tectonic tremors, paleoseismology, crustal rheology and frictional properties). We also encourage studies based on risk assessment and communication to mitigate the risk associated with future megathrust earthquakes and tsunamis. Research bringing such kind of knowledge into plausible physics-based earthquake and tsunami models by means of computational methods (from the source process to the wave propagation) for the assessment of strong ground motions and inundation areas are also welcome. We finally call for contributions addressing disaster prevention plans that integrate, for instance, quantitative hazard estimates such as those mentioned above. These may include tsunami early warning systems, social science approaches, outreach, education and public policies, all of them aiming for risk mitigation associated to future megathrust earthquakes and tsunamis in the Pacific coast of Mexico. This session challenges the integration of quantitative seismology into disaster prevention sciences to discuss the measures that still are necessary to mitigate future disasters in the region, and to promote a sustainable social development that protects the lives and properties of Mexican citizens.

Title:
Regional climate modelling

Description:
In the last decade the study of the causes and effects of climate change, almost always supported by the integration of numerical models, has gained a social significance rarely seen in the history of modern science. Regional climate models have become a powerful tool to investigate the physical and dynamical processes of the atmosphere that regulate weather and climate. In recent years, the rapid growth of computational power has increased the potential and scope of such models, applied not only to the calculation of climate projections, but also to the generation of information for decision-makers.

This session will explore topics such as:

1) The implementation and validation of regional climate models in various regions of the world.

2) The use of regional climate models for the study of extreme hydrometeorological events: floods and droughts / cold and heat waves / tropical cyclones and tornadoes.

3) Dynamical downscaling of global climate models for the different global warming scenarios reported in the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report.

4) Studies of VIA (vulnerability, impacts and adaptation) to climate change.

Las geociencias en la sociedad: educación, difusión y divulgación

Description:
El desarrollo que las Geociencias han tenido en nuestro país ha sido exponencial en las últimas décadas, esto debido al interés científico y técnico de los geoinvestigadores. Conocer la dinámica de la Tierra y los procesos que han configurado la gran riqueza geológica de nuestro país, ha sido y sigue siendo el propósito de las Geociencias. La Geología ha tenido que ampliar sus alcances con lo cual ahora se apoya de otras ciencias como: Matemáticas, Química, Física, Biología, entre otras.

La diversidad institucional enfocada en la Geología, ha sembrado en los científicos de México la capacidad de observar los fenómenos que se suscitan en su entorno, enfrentándolos a su comprensión y su explicación de formas aceptables para la comunidad científica, pero igualmente entendibles para la sociedad en general. Esta capacidad de expresión del quehacer científico a un lenguaje más accesible para todos es factor clave en la consolidación del investigador, como ciudadano participativo y científico responsable.

La intención de esta sesión es conocer las diversas técnicas o formas en las que se enseñan, difunden e infunden las Ciencias de la Tierra en nuestro país, tanto en las aulas como fuera de ellas, a la vista de la sociedad. Se incluirán trabajos sobre difusión y divulgación de las Ciencias de la Tierra, programas de estudios, impacto y retribución social, y métodos novedosos en el proceso de enseñanza.

Title:
The future of energy in Mexico

Description:
Almost 90% of Mexico energy matrix comes from non-renewable sources, where oil accounts for 50% of the total. Mexican oil production peaked in 2004, and has continued to decline since then. However, government policies have not taken into account the reality of the decline and the official discourse is still considering the possibility of an increase in domestic production. As for electricity Mexico has invested heavily on natural gas (more than 50% of production), a non-renewable resource which we have to import 30% of what we consume. On the other hand there is great expectation about the potential of renewable energies which, despite its recent growth, in Mexico only provide 10% of the total energy and 15% of electricity (where 12% comes from hydroelectric power plants).

In this special session we invite to discuss medium- and long-term energy scenarios for Mexico based on hard data. We welcome contributions that address the following subjects: 1) oil production in Mexico, the remaining reserves and future scenarios; 2) the possible growth of nuclear energy taking into account the associated risks; 3) the current status of renewable energy sources and their potential for growth, particularly in regard to wind power, solar and geothermal energy; 4) the economic and environmental costs of each energy source.

Title:
Observations on the biochemical and ecological productivity processes in the Gulf of Mexico

Description:
The high density of human populations on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, that confer to this region its urban character, together with the vast resources of gas and hydrocarbons in its subsurface geological reservoirs, the heavy maritime traffic in the region and the importance of its natural resources to sustain the population settled around this continental sea, encompass a set of complicating factors for the sustainable development of the large Gulf of Mexico ecosystem. In this session we invite presentations on baseline studies of the biogeochemical, and ecological processes in the Gulf of Mexico, from the continental platforms to the abyssal plains, in the water column and sediments that lay the foundations of the necessary understanding of the processes that control the cycling of nutrients, carbon and elemental composition that modulate its biological productivity. All the variables that together with the ocean circulation processes control the ecosystem functions which provide and sustain the health and welfare of the human population living on its shores. This session invites to all those researchers working on currently undertaking base line studies in the Gulf waters to present their results that will help to understand and guide the future investigations and monitoring efforts of this strategic region.

Title:
Advancements on physical and biogeochemical modeling of the Gulf of Mexico

Description:
The Gulf of Mexico is a region of strategic interest due to important economic activities, such as the presence of the oil industry, fishing, navigation, and tourism. The particular value of this region highlights the need to assess the impact of diverse oceanic and atmospheric forcings on our modeling capabilities of the marine environment. This should provide the basis to improve the safety of these operations, and to foresee the possible impacts of different natural and anthropogenic forcings. The Gulf of Mexico has been the subject of several studies and modeling efforts in recent decades. Specially after the B.P. Horizon accident in 2010, a large amount of resources has been directed to improve our ability to model and forecast the marine physical environment. In Mexico this effort has culminated in the formation of the Gulf of Mexico Research Consortium (CIGOM), that is contributing with major advances in the knowledge of the regional oceanography. Therefore, we propose this session as a forum to discuss the recent advances made by different groups. State-of-the-art results from diverse oceanographic models will be presented aiming to build a robust understanding of the physical and biogeochemical dynamics of this strategic region for the country.

Title:
Marine and continental paleoclimatic records

Description:
Climate variability over geologic time is investigated through various continental and marine natural records such as: marine and lake sediments, speleothems, paleosoils, tree rings and corals. Based on different proxies it is possible to reconstruct paleoclimatic conditions at different time and spatial scales.

We invite to present and discuss advances in research on climate variability and high-resolution reconstructions at different spatial and temporal scales (orbital, millennial, centennial and decadal) and relationships with the mechanisms driven the climate (e.g. solar activity, volcanism, atmospheric and oceanic circulation). Teleconnections and interactions of ENSO, the Intertropical Convergence Zone and the North American Monsoon records glacial - interglacial last cycle.

In this session are welcome all works share recent research findings on the deformation of Late Cretaceous and Paleogene basin flexural associated Mexican fold-thrust belt (MFTB). Title:
Geodynamic features and geological history of NW Mexico

Description:
The geology of NW Mexico includes an extensive record of metamorphic and igneous events related to different Proterozoic to Holocene geological/tectonic processes. Various petrological studies from crystalline basement and the supracrustal volcanic rocks present in the region have unraveled these events of metamorphism and magmatism. For the fifth consecutive year, we are pleased to call for contributions to our scientific session in topics related to geochemistry, petrology, and tectonics—to cite a few—that would enrich discussion and advance knowledge on the geological evolution of NW Mexico.

Title:
Mexicali and Imperial Valleys' active faults: characterization, tectonics and seismic implications

Description:
This session focuses on those recent geological and geophysical investigations related to active geological faults affecting the region of Mexicali Valley and Imperial Valley and urban and agricultural areas of Mexicali, Mexico and Calexico, United States. This session is a continuation of the UGM Special Session No. 24 of November 2013 and the forum held on the same subject in June 2015 at the Institute of Engineering of the Autonomous University of Baja California.

Therefore, this proposed session solicits contributions of studies of active faults and their effects in this region. This includes the effects of past earthquakes in the Mexicali and Imperial Valleys, such as the earthquake of Mw 7.2 April 4, 2010, and previous earthquakes, as well as other studies in the urban and agricultural areas that clarify the locations of active faults, their faulting style and history, and their seismic activity.

Isótopos ambientales y espectrometría de masas aplicados a sistemas hidrológicos: ejemplos

Existen en la literatura un gran número de publicaciones sobre isótopos ambientales, a cualquier nivel del conocimiento, partiendo de conceptos muy teóricos que estudian el efecto isotópico, desde un punto de vista de Física Cuántica, hasta ejemplos muy simples; sin embargo es importante mencionar que la base fundamental de lo que en la actualidad se conoce como el área de investigación de Hidrología Isotópica se encuentra conformada por un número limitado de trabajos de investigación, que se han ido complementando y/o ampliando dando origen a nuevas aplicaciones, basadas en observaciones y experimentos. El objetivo del curso es proporcionar los conceptos básicos para el entendimiento de la ocurrencia y comportamiento del agua de lluvia, superficial y subterránea en un contexto hidrogeológico, a través del análisis de datos isotópicos. Con base en estos conceptos se pretende que los participantes obtengan un conocimiento general sobre espectrometría de masas, isótopos ambientales y su aplicación e interpretación. Además de revisar las metodologías que en conjunto proporcionen un análisis práctico y sencillo que provea la utilidad de los isótopos ambientales en el estudio del agua durante el ciclo hidrológico.durante el ciclo hidrológico.

El fracturamiento del terreno y la reactivación de las fallas pre-existentes causados por la extracción de fluidos del subsuelo se han observado en cientos de cuencas sedimentarias en todo el mundo, principalmente en EE.UU. y en las zonas semiáridas de países como México, China, India, Libia, Irán, Arabia Saudita (http://www.igcp641.org/). La inesperada generación de fracturas y la activación de fallas se asociada directamente con la subsidencia del terreno de origen antropogénico causando un fuerte impacto en el desarrollo de los asentamientos urbanos, centros industriales, agrícolas y otras actividades económicas.

El objetivo principal del proyecto M3EF3 es mejorar la comprensión de los procesos implicados en el fracturamiento del terreno utilizando un enfoque integrado por el Monitoreo de la deformación superficial, in-situ y por técnicas de percepción remota, la caracterización hidráulico-Mecánica en laboratorio, y el modelado Matemático (M3) para producir una herramienta eficaz que permita gestionar el riesgo geológico asociado con el fracturamiento del terreno y la reactivación de fallas.

Invitamos a la comunidad de Ciencias de la Tierra, Ingenieros, usuarios de los estudios de subsidencia del terreno y peligros asociados y encargados de la planeación de desarrollo urbano a participar en este segundo taller que incluye: (1) la presentación de casos de estudio, (2) el estudio de los mecanismos de fracturamiento del terreno, (3) el desarrollo de las técnicas de monitoreo y modelado y de la subsidencia y fracturamiento del terreno y, (4) la propuesta de métodos para la evaluación del riesgo y mitigación del fracturamiento del terreno.

En función del número de asistentes, se pretende organizar una salida de campo post congreso para visitar sitios afectados por fracturamiento en la Ciudad de Guadalajara y zonas aledañas

Ground ruptures (earth fissures and reactivation of pre-existing surface faults) caused by extraction of fluids from the subsurface have been observed in hundreds of sedimentary basins worldwide, mainly in USA and in semiarid areas of countries such as Mexico, China, India, Libya, Iran, Saudi Arabia (http://www.igcp641.org/). Unexpected fissure generation and fault activation associated with anthropogenic land subsidence strongly impact on the development of urban settlements, industrial centers, agricultural and other economic activities.

The M3EF3 main objective is to improve the understanding of the processes involved in ground rupturing by the use of an integrated approach made by in-situ Monitoring of surface deformation, remote sensing techniques, hydro-Mechanical laboratory characterization, and mathematical Modeling (M3) to produce an effective tool to manage the geological risk associated with earth fissuring and reactivation of surface faults.

We invite the earth scientists, engineers, end users of the studies on land subsidence and associate hazard and urban planners to participate in this second workshop that includes: (1) the presentation of study cases, (2) the study of mechanisms of earth fissuring, (3) the development of the most used techniques for monitoring and modeling land subsidence and earth fissuring and (4) proposed methods for risk assessment and mitigation of earth fissuring.

Depending on the number of attendees, a post-congress field trip to visit fracturing sites in Guadalajara City and surrounding areas will be organized.

Técnicas de muestreo para la datación del contexto arqueológico por termoluminiscencia, radiocarbono y arqueomagnetismo

Sampling techniques for dating archaeological context by thermoluminescence, radiocarbon and archaeomagnetism

Description:
Dentro de la arqueometría la aplicación de métodos de datación es fundamental para establecer la cronología de los sitios arqueológicos. Los materiales culturales presentes en un contexto arqueológico son muy variados y algunos de ellos pueden ser muy buenos indicadores de temporalidad, sin embargo, es muy importante el análisis del contexto arqueológico previo a la toma de muestras y conocer las características de los materiales culturales presentes en el sitio (cerámica, huesos, estucos, conchas, restos orgánicos, pisos, hornos, etc.) para aplicar el método de datación adecuado para cada material. En ocasiones la aplicación de los métodos de datación no se pueden llevar a cabo por motivos tales como un mal manejo de las muestras (contaminación), las muestras son sometidas a condiciones ambientes o artificiales que afectan su medición o la carencia de elementos de campo que deben ser medidos in situ.

Es imprescindible el análisis del contexto arqueológico y la obtención de los materiales adecuados para que estos sean los indicadores correctos de temporalidad para el evento que se quiere datar, esto define el establecimiento de cronologías confiables y con mayor precisión. Este curso pretende dar los elementos necesarios para desarrollar una estrategia de muestreo apropiada para cada contexto arqueológico, además los criterios que se deben de seguir para seleccionar el método de datación adecuado, además de los fundamentos y las técnicas de muestreo requerida para aplicar cada uno de los métodos estudiados en el curso. El conocimiento de los alcances y limitaciones de cada método nos ayudan a integrarlos de manera precisa con el fin de generar cronologías más robustas y congruentes.

Objetivo:
Conocer los fundamentos y metodologías de muestreo de los métodos de datación por termoluminiscencia, radiocarbono y arqueomagnetismo para la correcta toma de muestras durante el proceso de excavación arqueológica.

Within archeometry, the application of dating methods is essential to establish the chronology of archaeological sites. Cultural materials in an archaeological context are varied and some of them can be very good indicators of temporality, however, is very important the analysis of previous archaeological context to the sampling and know the characteristics of cultural materials in the site (pottery, bones, stucco, shells, organic rest, floors, ovens, etc.) to apply the appropriate method of dating for each material. Sometimes the application of dating methods cannot be carried out for reasons such as improper handling of samples (contamination), the samples are subjected to artificial or ambient conditions affecting measurement or lack of field elements that must be measured in situ.

It is essential archaeological context analysis and obtaining appropriate materials for these indicators are correct timing for the event you want to date , this defines the establishment of reliable chronologies and more accurately. This course aims to provide the necessary elements to develop a strategy appropriate sampling for each archaeological context, besides the criteria that must be followed to select the appropriate method of dating, in addition to the basics and sampling techniques required to implement each the methods studied in the course. Knowledge of the scope and limitations of each method help us integrate precisely in order to generate more robust and consistent chronologies

Mapa digital de México y cartografía de recursos naturales de INEGI

Description:
El objetivo de este taller es habilitar a los participantes en el manejo del software MAPA DIGITAL DE MÉXICO PARA ESCRITORIO VERSIÓN 6.1, mediante el desarrollo de ejercicios prácticos de integración y análisis espacial con información vectorial en los temas de topografía, geología, hidrología, uso del suelo y vegetación, entre otros.

Al concluir dicho taller, los participantes estarán habilitados para crear sus propios proyectos en MAPA DIGITAL DE MÉXICO, obteniendo resultados útiles al desarrollo de trabajos de investigación científica.

Contenido a desarrollar: Exploración de la Interfaz MAPA DIGITAL DE MÉXICO WEB, Descarga de Cartografía y Software, Instalación del software MAPA DIGITAL DE MÉXICO, Creación de Proyectos, Vistas, Integración de Información Vectorial, Manejo de Base de Datos, Conexión a WMS (Web Map Service), Gráficas, Análisis Espacial, Exportación de Datos y Asociación de Archivos y sitios WEB.

La extraordinaria expansión y mejora experimentada actualmente por los métodos y códigos numéricos así como por los equipos de cómputo (hardware y software) ha permitido tratar con eficacia una increíble diversidad de problemas de geofísica, ingeniería y muchas otras ciencias, cuya complejidad crece continuamente. Mientras que el desarrollo de nuestra capacidad para predecir el comportamiento de los fenómenos y procesos de interés para el ser humano ha sido continuo, el advenimiento de herramientas computacionales ha llevado a un salto abrupto en nuestra capacidad de predecir, debido a que estos nuevos instrumentos permiten integrar conocimientos científicos y tecnológicos en modelos físicos y matemáticos haciendo el pronóstico con la ayuda de la computación electrónica.

Esta forma de proceder se llama modelación matemática computacional (CMM). La importancia científica de esta nueva disciplina es tan grande que hoy en día es ampliamente reconocido que la ciencia se basa en tres columnas: la ciencia teórica, ciencia experimental y ciencia computacional. Así, hoy en día existen entre otros: la física computacional, química computacional y geofísica computacional. Para el adelanto de la geofísica en México y su región, es importante acelerar el desarrollo de la geofísica computacional en dicha región. Para ello la Unión de Geofísica mexicana ofrece este "Curso Intensivo de Geofísica computacional".

VENTAJAS

A. Los beneficios de conocer los modelos básicos de los procesos más importantes de la Geofísica son evidentes, pues proporcionan una base muy sólida para introducirse en muchos temas.

B. En la investigación, una de las grandes ventajas de conocer un método sistemático para establecer el modelo básico de cualquier sistema es que este conocimiento permite ser pionero en el tratamiento de muchos problemas, pues no es necesario esperar a que los nuevos planteamientos aparezcan en la literatura para iniciar el estudio e investigación de tales problemas.

While the development of our ability to predict the behavior of phenomena and processes of interest for the human being has been continuous, the advent of computational tools has led to an abrupt leap in our ability to predict, since these new instruments allow to integrate scientific and technological knowledge in physics and mathematics models making the forecast with the aid of electronic computing.

This way of proceeding is called computational mathematical modeling (CMM). The scientific importance of this new discipline is so great that today it is widely recognized that science is based on three columns: the theoretical science, experimental science, and computational science. Thus, today there are among others: Computational Physics, computational biology and computational geophysics. For the advancement of geophysics in Mexico and the Americas, it is important to accelerate the development of computational geophysics in the region. For this, the Mexican Geophysics Union offers this "Intensive Course on Computational Geophysics"

Herramientas de computo de alto rendimiento en el Servicio de Clima Espacial México

En este curso abordaremos las cuestiones técnicas para utilizar los servicios de computo de alto rendimiento del Servicio de Clima Espacial México, que Incluyen el cluster de datos y el servidor de procesamiento de datos. En el curso utilizaremos herramientas de desarrollo libres para el procesamiento de datos de los instrumentos, los radiotelescopios MEXART y Callisto.

In this lecture we will work in technical skills to use the high computing capabilities of the Mexican Space Weather Service. The infraestructure include a cluster and a data server. In the workshop we will use open software for processing the data from both instruments: Mexart and callisto radiotelescope.

Como parte de las actividades de la Reunión Anual de la Unión Geofísica Mexicana se propone una salida de buceo recreativo. Dicha salida será apta tanto para buzos certificados como para personas sin certificación, siempre y cuando realicen el curso previo. La salida de buceo estará a cargo de Silent World Divers, quienes proveerán el equipo y logística de la salida. El curso previo será realizado en una alberca indicada por Silent World Divers, mientras que el punto de encuentro será en las instalaciones de dicho centro de buceo. Los participantes deberán firmar una carta en la cual establecen que se involucran en esta actividad bajo su propio riesgo y donde deslindan de cualquier responsabilidad tanto a la Unión Geofísica Mexicana como a Silent World Divers. Igualmente deberán cumplir con los siguientes requisitos:
